I would like to share a little story about what happened to an acquaintance of mine not too long ago.
Internet! What a magnificent invention! You can travel everywhere in the world and meet your friends. Well, not only them, but you can even meet people you didn’t know existed until an attractive request pops- up on the screen and the person asks for your friendship. You did not give it a second look. It had to go. But you found yourself studying the picture of an attractive individual, the warm smile and probably good intentions. You don’t really know if they were good or just intentions. At first, you click on the Block button. Marvelous invention…you can block and unblock people as you wish. Fascinating! Five minutes later you unblock the person because you are curious. You want to find out more. You blocked and unblocked several times and, finally, you decided to accept the invite.
You didn’t know what you did. Your eyes opened wide, it had surpassed any galaxy ever known when you got the first phrase. You started with the basics like the name, occupation, and good byes. Next day you advance a little further into getting to know each other. You enjoyed each other company because it was fun. In the meantime, you started a research but you couldn’t find out too much about the other person. An account that was hijacked on Facebook and had to be closed raised some questions. One day it began to feel dangerous. The other person started to tell you about the necessities coming his/her ways and the importance of your help. You don’t want to acknowledge the fact that you are subject to a romance scam until the day you discover that everything you thought you knew was a lie.
If you want to know what to do it is very simple: contact spam@gov.uce and let them know about the scammer. They will do everything and you will be saved from heartaches and headaches. These scammers steal pictures from ordinary people like me or you and use them to get financial benefits. All they had to do is sit comfortable in their homes and sent you love letters, songs and messages. If you fall for them, you are in big trouble! They will exploit you and take your hard win money!
These scammers are everywhere, have a bad English and get angry if they don’t get what they want. They are located in countries like Nigeria and Ghana, and they impersonate US military soldiers in different parts of the world. They have no remorse for what they do!
My advice to you: accept requests from people you know or if you have a way to verify their identity! Protect yourself from Scammers!
